Celtic Tattoo Designs
These ancient
British designs date back to the time of the Romans, when they
invaded this island. Having said this, the Roman records
are the first written evidence for the Celtic tattoo designs,
this does not mean the natives had not been using these designs
for many hundreds of years before then.
Celtic Tattoos
are identified by thick lined patterns that weave together to
make an over all design. Another major feature of the
designs are the use of swirls that create symmetrical circular
patterns.

Arm bands are
another very effect piece. You cam get what is called
'knotwork', which is where the lines either filled in or empty,
are knotted together to create a very effective design.
This is especially enhanced, if you make the different strands
different colours.

In addition to
the simple shapes is something called 'Kell's Imagery'.
The art work is where the classic Celtic patterns are
intertwined with images of people animals and birds,
eventually turning into a symmetrical piece. The picture
below is of the Celtic Twisted Snakes, a very important Celtic
symbol.

Although there
are many traditional shapes, many tattoo artists will be able
to make you a unique design. The best thing to do is to
give the artist an idea of the style and shape you want, and
they will create you something amazing that no one else would
have.
