There are many different types of animals from fairytales and fantasy that can have great meaning to both men and women.  

Fairy Tattoo Designs

One of the most popular fairytale images is fairies. They can be beautiful tattoos; however, as there are so many out there it is hard to get an original design. Also if you put in some of your own meaning you can get the tattoo that is beautiful and is more significant to you.

The most famous fairy being, of course, Tinkerbell from Peter Pan.  In the Disney films she is seen as a bit of a badass and can take on pirates single handedly.  This has made her a household name and popular for fairy tattoo designs.

Unicorn Tattoo Designs

Of all the magical creatures of fantasy, unicorns is the only one with a consistent meaning. There are few records of an evil unicorn in all stories that you come across they are symbols of purity and pictures of innocence.  They have been a favourite in English coats of arms since the Medieval times.  The unicorn is also a symbol of ancient wisdom in eastern religions. 

Nymph Tattoo Designs

Nymphs are willowy creatures that are the spirits of trees.  They are graceful women and muscular men.  If you have a love for nature, especially trees and forests, then maybe a nymph tattoo design can be a subtle way of showing your great love.  One of their first appearances is with Bacchus the Greek god of wine.

Not all fairytale creatures are good and beautiful. Some like to have darker figures on their bodies. Witches and wizards tattoos can make very effective designs.  They are men and women of great power and often the nemesis of stories.

Having said this since Harry Potter witches and wizards are not seen as dark figures.  The books have also created a rise in Harry Potter novelty tattoos.

Goblin and Gremlin Tattoo Designs

Other popular figures are gremlins and goblins.  Although they are not very pretty to look at, they are cheeky, quite witted and fiendishly clever.  Goblin images have been made into gargolyes, which are ugly statues that are often found on older buildings as they were thought to keep bad spirits and demons away.  Many will have wings and horns to make them even scarier and intimidating.
