Dove Tattoo
Designs
Doves are found in very
significant places in some of the biggest Bible stories.
Universally it is the symbol of peace; however, it is also
a representation of the Holy Spirit on earth. It was
a dove that found dry land for Noah by bringing back an
olive branch, another symbol of peace. The Holy Spirit
came down from heaven in the form of a dove during the
baptism of Jesus. In Leviticus, doves were a sacrificial
animal as they were seen to be purer than other
animals.
Raven Tattoo
Designs
Ravens often get a negative press as, in
Catholic traditions the crucified thief who doubted
Jesus was said to have his eyes plucked out by a raven. There are other
Bible stories where ravens are key.
When God sent Elijah into
the desert He sustained him by sending ravens with food in
their beaks.
Often the
raven is pictured with roses as the rose is Christian tradition
represents the blood of Chris. (for more information see

Lion and Lamb
Designs
If you do not
want to have a cross or portrait to represent Jesus then, both
the lion and the lamb are used to signify different aspects of
Jesus' character. One of Jesus' names comes from 'The Lion of
Judah', this goes back to his family ties with King David and
draws of Jesus' kingship.
The lamb, is
drawing on the significance of Jesus' sacrifice for the world's
sins. In the book of Revelation, Jesus is often symbolised
as a lamb.
In Isaiah 11
it talks about the lion lying down with the lamb, showing the
coming together of these two strong characteristics in one man.
It has become a strong Christian image and makes for a powerful
religious tattoo design.
Fish and XP
Tattoo Designs
In the days of the early church,
the Christians would not use the cross symbol but a fish
instead. They would use it to find out if the person
they were talking to was a believer or not during times of
great persecution. One would draw the fish sign in
the dirt on the ground and if they were a Christian they
would put a dot where the eye was, if they were not a
believer they would probably think it was odd but not know
it was a Christian sign, keeping the believer
safe.
Another
ancient sign for Jesus and the Early Church was XP these are
the ancient Greek letters meaning Christ. They were often
used for Christian graffiti, and possibly why the believers
ended up being called Christians, meaning little
Christ.
